Design experiment Christmas Seals, which began in 1979, are issued on a limited basis to help select the design of the following year's national issue. The nationally issued Christmas Seals from 1981 to date were selected from a previous design experiment.
Christmas Seals are also known as TB Charity Seals, and are usually classified as Charity Seals, or Cinderella Stamps.
The American Lung Association (ALA) issues Charity Seals twice a year. U.S. Christmas Seals, before, or at Christmas, and U.S. Spring Seals, before, or at Easter.
