Issued 1938 by the National Tuberculosis Association (NTA). Seals designed by Lloyd Coe. Mother and two children at window. Portrait seals designed by Edward Mansfield with lettering by Earl Hoffman. Sheet of 100 (10x10), brown, red, green, and black. Seal size: 17x221/2mm. Per. 121/2. Printer's Mark: a brown "D" in the lower middle right side above the cross on seal #56.

Portrait seals in the four corners of the sheet are different from the 96 regular seals, having portraits and names of four men active and outstanding in their respective countries in furthering the work and struggle to eradicate tuberculosis. They are: (1) Seal #1 shows Dr. Rene Laennec of France who invented the stethoscope; (2) Seal #10 shows Dr. Robert Koch of Germany, who in 1882 discovered the tubercle bacillus and proved tuberculosis to be a germ disease; (3) Seal #91 shows Dr. Edward Trudeau of New York, who in 1885 established the first tuberculosis sanatorium in the US, at Saranac Lake, NY; and (4) Seal #100 shows Einar Holboll, the Danish postal clerk who in 1904 conceived the idea which started the sale of TB Christmas seals in Denmark.

1938 Christmas Seals were printed by four printers, Eureka "E" (WX92), Strobridge "S" (WX93), Edwards and Deutch "D" (WX93), and U.S. Printing "U" (WX93). A letter "E" "D" "S" or "U" appears on seal #56.

Christmas Seals are also known as TB Charity Seals, and are sometimes classified as Charity Seals, or Cinderella Stamps.
