How To Use Stamp Mounts



Stamp Mounts are acetate holders, clear on the front and with some sort of adhesive on the back. Mounts hold stamps with pressure and are affixed to an album page. Collectors use mounts to mount stamps or covers.

There are two styles of stamp mounts. Crystal clear front with black back, and crystal clear front with clear back. Many collectors prefer the clear front with black back variety because the black back frames the stamp on the album page.

Stamp mounts can be purchased in packages of uncut strips or precut sizes. We suggest that you purchase precut sizes until you are ready to handle the uncut strips, which require a mount cutter, so as to accurately cut the strips. 

Stamps should be measured in millimeters (mm), as precut mounts are described in mm (ex: 22/25mm) (width/height). Many collectors add 5mm to both the measured width and height of a stamp. The extra mount will then frame the stamp. And, be sure to measure the stamp from the outside edge of the perforations. 


Once the stamp is measured and the proper mount is cut or selected, the process is easy -

 1. Turn the stamp over in the direction of the arrow.

2. Place the stamp into the free half as far as it will go.

3. Allow the mount to flop back into place as shown. The stamp is now securely locked     but can be removed without damaging either the stamp or the mount.
